This project consist of three videos on loop, projected at the same time next to each other. It was taken during my migration to the United Kingdom. I stood almost in the centre of the frame in all the videos but got a little bit closer to the camera in each video. However, my face never becomes fully vivid in any of the videos as I was working with this idea that even when I create a sense of belonging in a another land, I still don’t feel quite at home.
At the first glance, it seems as if these three videos are the frames of photographs due to the fact that I am standing still. However, suddenly the spectator recognises some movements; people walking far on the background and the shadows of the birds on the ground. This is when the spectator becomes aware of the fact the these are motion pictures and not just photographs.
“ The transformation of “free from what” to “free for what” which takes place after gaining freedom to some extent, has always accompanied me like a backdrop through my immigrations. this is a constant condition of us wanderers, for us who has experienced the dissolution of settled life. “ (Vilem Flusser, Towards a philosophy of photography).
